2. General & legal bases
We process personal data only to the extent necessary. The legal bases are in particular Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR (consent), (b) (contract / pre-contractual measures) and (f) (legitimate interest).
3. Hosting & server log files (Cloudflare Pages)
This website is hosted by Cloudflare, Inc. (101 Townsend St, San Francisco, CA 94107, USA) via “Cloudflare Pages”. When the site is accessed, technically necessary server log data is processed (shortened IP address, date/time, requested resource, referrer, browser/device type) in order to deliver the site and ensure security and stability. The legal basis is our legitimate interest (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR) in secure, performant operation. These logs are retained only briefly for security/operational purposes. A data processing agreement (Art. 28 GDPR) is in place with Cloudflare.
4. Newsletter (Brevo)
To sign up for our newsletter we process the email address you provide in order to send you stories and updates. The legal basis is your consent (Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR). Sending and management are handled by Brevo (Sendinblue GmbH, Cologne, Germany) as a processor. You can withdraw your consent at any time with effect for the future — via the unsubscribe link in every email or by message to the address above. The lawfulness of processing carried out until withdrawal remains unaffected. After unsubscribing, your address is removed from the mailing list.
5. Contacting us
If you contact us by email, we process your details to handle the request (Art. 6(1)(b) or (f) GDPR). The data is deleted once it is no longer required and no statutory retention obligations apply.
6. No cookies, no tracking, no external resources
This website uses no cookies and no analytics/marketing services, and loads no external resources (e.g. web fonts, font CDNs, tracking pixels, embedded videos) from third-party servers. A consent banner is therefore not required.
7. Recipients / processors
Recipients of personal data are exclusively the processors named above, Cloudflare (hosting) and Brevo (newsletter), each on the basis of a data processing agreement. No further disclosure takes place unless we are legally obliged to do so.
8. Transfer to third countries
In the context of hosting, a transfer to the USA (Cloudflare) may occur. This is based on the EU-US Data Privacy Framework or EU standard contractual clauses (Art. 46 GDPR).
9. Storage period
We store personal data only for as long as necessary for the respective purposes or until consent is withdrawn, provided no statutory retention periods apply.
10. Your rights
You have the right to access (Art. 15), rectification (Art. 16), erasure (Art. 17), restriction of processing (Art. 18), data portability (Art. 20) and to withdraw consent given (Art. 7(3)), each under the GDPR. To exercise these rights, contact the email address above.
11. Right to object (Art. 21 GDPR)
Where we process data on the basis of legitimate interests (Art. 6(1)(f)), you have the right to object at any time on grounds relating to your particular situation.
12. Right to lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority
You have the right to lodge a complaint with a data protection supervisory authority — in particular in the member state of your residence or of the place of the alleged infringement.
13. No automated decision-making
Automated decision-making including profiling (Art. 22 GDPR) does not take place.
14. Minors
Our offering is not directed at children. We do not knowingly collect personal data from persons under 16 years of age.
15. Currency & changes
We update this privacy policy as soon as changes to our processing make it necessary. The version published on this page at the time applies.
